This still lets it grip without the noise. I noticed in the winter, when its cold, on hardwoods when you set the step by pulling down, it wanted to squeak. I bought some shrink wrap tubing off ebay, cut it to length for the v brackets, and doubled the thickness by putting 2 pieces on each side.
#LONE WOLF TREE STAND MODS#
One of my favorite mods I've done is this:
I'm new here but I'm hoping to learn what some other people have done to there stands/sticks! You should be able to tuck your gear under the other two bungees as well but I can usually fit my sitka ascend 8 pack on one side of the sticks, my sitka fanatic jacket on the other side, and then when it is a little colder I can fit my fanatic bibs over the sticks, pack, and jacket all under the one bungee and it stays secure. The third bungee cord is used for securing gear to the stand. I bought 3 (22 or 24in don't remember) bungee cords with plastic hooks to hold the sticks on the stand a little more snug. The straps and frame make a big difference in the comfort of hauling my stand, sticks, and gear a reasonable distance. Just need to let it sit outside for a couple of days to get rid of paint smell. I spray painted it just to make it more of a olive color rather than a tan. I also bought a Molle backpack straps, kidney belt (not pictured), and a back frame. I would use 5/16" diameter rope just so you don't have to wrap as much as I did, but like I said, it's what I had laying around. It also helps keep your hands from getting cold while putting the stand up/taking it down. Then I used some rope that I had laying around and wrapped it around the front of my alpha stand to eliminate the metal to metal contact when the seat gets folded against the platform of the stand. The tubing is shrunk just enough to where it stays put, but not too tight to where the buckle doesn't stay closed. Then I "borrowed" some polyolefin tubing from work and heat shrunk it around the metal buckles to deaden the metal noise of those. The reason I used the cloth instead of the actual tape is I figured that the cloth has more of a cushion to it, to absorb the metal klanky sound when metal and metal hit. I bought some camo cloth tape and wrapped each one of the sticks in that.
